Barcelona wouldn’t be the same without its wonderful Barrio Gotico (the gothic quarter): it is the heart of the old town centre, a suggestive area, a destination suggested in all the best touristic guides. But, as you already know, we don’t like conventional paths so let’s follow all our tips if you want to lose yourself among the typical narrow alleys, the small squares surrounded by gothic buildings and the typical views of the city centre. Just follow your instinct and take the streets that most attract you... We are sure that you’ll be astonished! You’ll discover that you’ll find something for everybody: if you like art, you cannot absolutely miss the Picasso Museum, situated in carrer Montcada 15-23, where you will find all his masterpieces. Otherwise, if you want to spend your afternoon among “celebs”, we suggest the Wax Museum, situated in Passatge de la Banca 7. The Barrio Gotico is all that and much more; if you want to do alternative shopping, this is the right place: here you will find many different small shops that sell unique objects, from weird clothes to handmade jewellery and characteristic souvenirs. Moreover, on Thursday mornings, you will find a typical vintage and antiques market in the small square in front of the cathedral (one of the oldest buildings of the city). While if you’re hungry, we can say that the Barrio Gotico is one of the liveliest areas of the city with all its tapas bars where to taste yummy tapas and sangria, with live music on the background. We also want to suggest a unique place that you cannot miss: El Bosc de les Fades. This unique café is situated in the same building of the Wax Museum and it seems a real enchanted forest; here you can have a cerveza (a beer) surrounded by centenary trees, fairies and gnomes. Finally we suggest to always pay attention because in this quarter you can find great street artists at every coin. The best moment to visit the quarter, according to us, is during the sunset, when buildings and churches project their shadows and create a great effect of light and shadow. We guarantee that it will seem like being inside a horror story... it’s really worth a visit! So let’s take a map and...are you ready to explore the area?"
