Cheers and enjoy your beer!
Today we’re going to visit Scotland, the homeland of kilts, bagpipes, breath-taking views and good old traditions... and we think that the best way to start this “trip” is to taste a delicious pint of beer to share with your friends in one of Edinburgh’s typical pubs, in perfect Scottish style! During your travel, of course you will see many pubs and clubs, especially in the most touristic streets, but, as we always try to avoid “touristic” places, we want to suggest a unique pub in one of the nice narrow streets of the city centre. After a quick tour, we ended up in Rose Street, which is parallel to the more famous Princess Street and George Street, but less popular among tourists. Here you will find many different pubs among the oldest and most typical of the city (all dating back to 1800-1850); if you don’t know how to choose, you can just follow our tips: we finally ended up at the Dirty Dick’s, at the west end of Rose Street, dating back to 1859. It’s a friendly and cosy place where you could stay hours drinking your pint of beer with your friends and spend a nice evening. But the most typical aspect of this pub is the ceiling; you will fall in love with all the many objects and baubles that cover it and also part of the walls: gypsum busts, pewter tableware, plastic objects, old books with leather covers, Victorian teapots in perfect English country style, old clocks, newspaper cut-outs... and much more, but we don’t want to reveal everything, you will discover many others weird objects when you will be there. Moreover, as the story goes, the pub takes its name from a man who, in 1850, earned a living by cleaning the streets (and its nickname comes from the “dirty” streets). After his work, he used to rest a bit in an inn situated where today we can find the pub and he also died there because of his poverty. So the Dirty Dick’s is definitely a real pub, where you can choose among a great range of beers, both locals and foreign; and if you’re also hungry, it’s also the perfect place where you can eat the “typical British pub food”, from midday until late in the evening. So what else can we say? Cheers and enjoy your beer!
