Christmas holidays…Is there a better time for a trip with your family or for a weekend somewhere with your friends? Is there a better time to enjoy the magical spirit of Christmas that once a year fills our hearts with joy? That’s exactly what we experienced a few weeks ago when we decided to visit San Marino, while looking for the last Christmas presents. And if you think that there is no better place than Austria or Trentino Alto Adige to feel an authentic Christmas atmosphere, surrounded by Christmas stalls, Santas and mulled wine…well, we’re sorry to tell you that you’re definitely wrong! In fact, the “Winter Wonderland” is not so far away: during Christmas holydays, the city of San Marino appears under a new guise, so magical! Christmas lights, street artists, Christmas trimmings everywhere in the streets and of course the unmissable traditional Christmas markets where you will find lots of original little gifts, 100% handmade! And if it’s not enough, you have to know that San Marino is also characterized by enchanted views and an ancient history. And this year the narrow streets of the city have been divided in five different thematic areas. The result? An incredible and suggestive Christmas scenery. And there’s something to suit everybody’s fancy! You can start from Images and visions, a route made of LED lights, giant Santas, reindeers and sleds made of lights scattered in the main streets of the city, but also an interactive position where you can make selfies and the unmissable video mapping evening show projected in the Domus Plebis square. Then you can proceed with Craft and food, a gastronomic tour where you can appreciate the traditional Italian food and its colors, tastes and flavours through some of the main streets (via Donna Felicissima, via Eugippo and Cantone Panoramico). So why don’t you stop there and warm up with a traditional and delicious hot chocolate? Exhibits and shows is the third thematic area, composed of nativity scenes, street artists and traveling exhibits. It is thanks to this area that we’ve been charmed by a giant soap bubbles show! In the meanwhile, children shouldn’t miss the so called Christmas Pavilion, which is the heart of the Junior Wonderland area; here they will find workshops, games and even a live connection whit the real Santa, directly from Lapland. This Pavilion is situated in the Cava Antica square. Finally, for those who cannot give up playing sports even in winter, let us introduce the Winter Games area! Here, you will find an ice rink and the so called “Snow Tube”, an ice ramp where you can have fun gliding, both situated in the Cava Antica square, next to the Christmas Pavilion. While just for the bravest ones, there’s a climbing school in the Cava dei Balestrieri.
So, there’s really everything you want! Moreover, we’ve been there during a beautiful sunny day, while in Rimini (the city where I –Chiara- live) there was a dense fog. And we have to admit that from the top of San Marino there was a breath-taking “white” view: a heap of white and fluffy clouds from the top of an enchanted city! So, what are you waiting for? You cannot miss the opportunity of visiting a beautiful place, and hurry up, because the magical Winter Wonderland will be open until January 6th!
