If I say Vienna, I say sweet and if I say sweet I say...pink! If you happen to be in the Austrian capital, where gourmands from around the world have been gathering for centuries to taste local specialities like Apfel Strudel or Sacher Torte, take our advice and follow the colour pink! Yes, pink like the coulour that for over 100 years (1913 to be precise) has been the symbol of one of Austria's most famous pastry shop chains: Aida. Suffice it to say that only in Vienna there are 26 Aida shops. The fil rouge of this pastry franchise is undoubtedly the retrò furniture and, of course, the colour pink that holds the stage: from the interior design of the premises, to the packages and even the tableware and the waitres' shoes. If you want to taste one of the many traditional Austrian cakes and pastries (and they are all delicious), then here's what we recommend you: after a long day of sightseeing in the wonderful city centre, take some time for a sweet break in central Aida, situated just behind Stephan's Cathedral. There you will also enjoy the breathtaking view from the top floor. However, what will inevitably draw your attention, a part from the delicious aroma that goes all the way down to the street, is the huge glass counter, from where an enourmous variety of irresistible multicoloured cakes and pastries peep out. So we ended up sitting there, facing a "pink choice" of delicacies for all tastes. Well anyway, the bottom line is: amid much hesitation, we played it safe (and classical) and opted for a vanilla strudel and a chocolate sacher cake with a cup of good old cappuccino! So, have we conviced you? Meanwhile, feast yours eyes on the official website!
