Today we want to dedicate our post to a place that remembers the concept pubs typical of European most modern capitals like Berlin and London, even if we’re talking about Bologna. In the centre of our beautiful country, in an alternative and young city like Bologna, we’ve discovered this underground pub that we warmly suggest to try. We’re talking about “Ruggine”, situated in vicolo Alemagna n.2, which opened almost a year ago in the city centre. The first time it could be a bit difficult to find it, because it is a bit hidden and there is no sign outside, but after arriving there, you couldn’t do without it, it will be love at first sight! All the details are interesting and make Ruggine a unique place, starting from the main entrance, which remembers the entrance of an old garage (years ago this place was a buggies warehouse first and a bicycles garage/shop later). And also the name is meaningful: “Ruggine”(which means “rust”) is a word that remembers past things and recalls old charming memories. But it also refers to the idea of renewal and change, the union of old and new… it perfectly reflects the spirit of the place. Moreover, the furniture is perfect for a place like this: wooden tables all different and unique, industrial lamps, small blackboards on the walls, flowers on the tables that show up from recycled bottles and the menus affixed on wooden boards. In fact, in this place where the atmosphere is a bit retro and shabby-chic, almost everything is meant for a creative recycling. And the 4 guys -coming not only from Bologna but from all over Italy- who have opened this casual and cozy “European” restaurant/cafè have been really creative; moreover, you will feel immediately like home. And also the food is good and the prices are interesting and competitive. At lunch we suggest the brunch option, otherwise you could have one of their delicious typical traditional dishes (water, bread and the cover are included in the final price); while during the evening we warmly suggest either a sandwich or one of their dishes of local cold cuts and cheese, together with a glass of good wine. What do we like the most of this great place? First of all the attention to details and then the warm welcome of the staff… but also the nice menus: you will find all the drinks among the pages of old books. So don’t be astonished if one of the guys will take you an old copy of “The portrait of Dorian Gray” while asking you what do you want to drink. Finally, the place is not so big and there are few tables but there is also a nice counter with some stools in a perfect “tapas bar” style. We’ve discovered this place after the suggestion of a reliable friend and we’ve fallen in love with it, so now it’s your turn to try it: let’s follow our tip and we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed! Have a look at their web site!
