- Urban Room: impossibile uscire a mani vuote.
Here we are again, our dear readers, ready to present you the great world of the Danish shopping, as we discovered during our last trip to Copenhagen. If you think that we’re going to deal with a unique shop, you’re definitely wrong: in this post we deal with an entire quarter of the beautiful Copenhagen, the most hipster quarter of the capital, or maybe of Europe. Are you ready to be introduced to the great Norrebro? Situated in the north-western part of the city, not far from the city centre, this is a multicultural quarter but also a real paradise for young, creative people and students, because of its brilliant and dynamic soul. In Norrebro, everything is modern, magic, inspired by art and ready to show its innovative side. You’ll immediately notice this aspect when, after crossing the Dronning Louises Bro (better known as the “Hipsters Bridge”), you’ll wander around Elmegade and Jaegersborggade. Here you’ll lose yourself in the real Scandinavian contemporary culture (which is always developing), among old and modern buildings, open air works of art and weird but unique characters. In fact, in the last 10 years this area of the city has become the beating heart of the Danish capital: independent art galleries, ateliers and boutiques of young designers and fashion designers, small but unique cafés… you can choose what you prefer, there’s a lot of choice! So we strongly recommend to spend an entire day in this creative area of the city, we’re sure that you will fall in love with it! That’s exactly what happened to us. So, here below you can find a list of the places that you can’t absolutely miss:
- Velour: this is a small clothes shop situated at nr. 21, Elmegade. With its typical Nordic minimal style and its cosy atmosphere, it is a must-see in the quarter.
- Ladyfingers: a real mix of design and style, it can be considered a “jewellery design collective”, which means a collective boutique where you will find the creations of six young jewellery designers. You will definitely fall in love with it once you’ll arrive at nr. 4, Jaegersborggade.
- Urban Room: it’s impossible to come out from there without buying anything. Situated at nr. 11 Guldbergsgade, it’s a real shopping paradise where you can find everything: clothes made by young Danish fashion designers, design accessories for your home, reproductions, postcards, but also jewels!
And if during your tour among boutiques and art galleries you will need a break to eat or drink something, we suggest The Laundromat Cafè, which is small but funny, halfway a café and a laundry, but also a library. The owners are from Iceland and you can find it at nr. 15, Elmegade. We will tell you more about this place in one of our next posts! Stay tuned!
