Come riconoscere El poble?
Come arrivare?

"If you have never heard about “El Poble Espanyol”, no matter, we’re here with our post: in fact, many people don’t know that in the centre of Barcelona, in the heart of the Spanish movida, there is this lovely village which reproduces full-scale replicas of all the Spanish architectural masterpieces. When arriving in Barcelona, we had never heard about this place and we didn’t expected such a great place from what we had read in our guidebook. In fact El poble is a real art centre with several little shops, studios and handicraft boutiques, each one unique in its genre, where you can also observe the artists and artisans directly on the job. And you’ll see that you won’t leave before buying a great customised design object! How can you recognize El Poble once in Barcelona? It’s easy because it seems a fortress situated on the Montjuic, the promontory that stands out on the city; but be careful not to confuse it with the Montjuic Castle, which is situated in the same area and which is really similar, especially on the outside!
When entering from the main door (la Porta de Avila), you’ll be amazed: it will be like arriving in a real village, with its squares, its churches and its shops, and you’ll feel a really different atmosphere from Barcelona! Then you will be free to wander through the many narrow streets with all their small shops and handicraft boutiques. Of course you’ll also find the typical souvenir shops but we strongly suggest to avoid them and to focus your attention on a most unconventional shopping, in the name of the design. So don’t stop at the first shops you will find, but let’s try to discover all the hidden small shops and feel free to lose yourself among loads of pottery, blown glass objects, leather bags and accessories, copper and stone jewels and finally the typical Spanish handmade fans and shawls. And the most amazing thing is that past and present, old and new are mixed up in this small “handmade world”, and they can give birth to a unique creativity: next to the several small shops dating back to the 50es and the 60es, you can also find young designers and local young creative talents that have chosen to keep traditions alive.
And what about the prices? They’re not that expensive and they’re worth almost a purchase! So, if you’re looking for something unique and unconventional, or even if you want to breathe a different atmosphere from the busy movida of the city centre, El poble espanyol is the place to be! And if you want to know how to get there, you should take the metro (L1 or L3) and get off at the stop called Espanya or, if you’re not in a hurry, we suggest to take the panoramic bus from the Parque del Montjuic and get off at El poble espanyol.
